Neuro-Linguistic Programs for PGDM/MBA students

Your strongest muscle and worst enemy is your mind. Train it well. Learning Neuro- Linguistic Programs (NLP) is learning about your mind.

The term Neuro stands for Nervous system process that refers to that part of your brain which interprets & processes your experience through your senses. Linguistic refers to chat or communication. It is well-said language is the dress of our thoughts.  Our thought process reflects in our behavior.

Marcus Aurelius said – “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”

NLP helps us to better communicate with ourselves and others as well to achieve our goals. It is a language of the mind. It makes an individual look at their thoughts, feelings, emotions as objects which they can control. It is therapy for changing the way we think. The different NLP techniques influence your conscious thoughts and improve action by working upon the sub-conscious or unconscious thoughts. NLP is just like “software for the brain.”

The concept of NLP first originated in 1970 at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Grinder and Bandler are known as the initiators of this concept. They released their first book on NLP, “Structure of Magic – A book on Language of Therapy”, in 1975. The focus of the book was on patterns of communication, techniques & theories of mental health, & language patterns that reflect through our cognition. Today, NLP is used in every field such as medicine, law, business, sports, arts, military, education, and many more.

Neuro-Linguistic Programs influence your ability to read and predict the responses of others. Through research, it is a fact that many famous personalities have naturally run a pattern of communication that is inclusive of their behavior. Their subconscious mind has controlled their conscious behavior.

One of the techniques of NLP is “Imagery Training”, about mental rehearsal through visualization of a scene of yourself as performing a successful action. You picture yourself as comfortable, confident to handle any peculiar situation. Another technique of NLP is to train your brain to fade the scenes & negatives that you don’t want and fill your memory with replacements that you want as positives. The technique of modeling in NLP is based on the Law of Attraction. Here, you constantly think about your wants and move towards what you aspire to achieve. It is to pass the signal to your brain to be associated with those who are with the same success that you desire. The more role models you have, the more leverage to pursue your goals. The next technique of mirroring is about your body language that makes instant connections and builds rapport with anyone. It helps you to gain trust with the next person. Incantation is considered the more powerful version of affirmations.   You make it clear to yourself about your beliefs, values & goals that change your physiology reflected in your confident behavior. Hence, NLP therapy is action-oriented.

NLP learnings can be summarized in these words of Richard Bandler, “The easier you can make it inside your head, the easier it will make things outside your head”.
